Imagine you are about to launch a new website. You have viewed and critiqued the search engine results pages for your niche and feel that your site has a credible chance of breaching those top positions and soon enough will be driving traffic, leads and sales straight to your door. It’s not that hard to imagine - I see it all the time.

Some weeks back I allowed Google to share my little ol’ SEO website traffic data via Google Analytics and allow it to be used in their pet Benchmarking project. Over the last few days I have noticed that finally I can compare my site against sites of a similar size (although how they define size is something I would like them to expand on) and see if our site is punching above its weight or are we truly that weak that we find it difficult to punch our way out of a wet paper bag?

I read somewhere recently that most SEO / Internet Marketers are all frustrated unpublished writers. I’m not sure about the ‘frustrated’ part but I’ll agree 100% on the ‘unpublished’ bit.

I have been skulking around since mid last week after receiving the news that my wee SEO blog had been hacked. Its difficult to explain the feeling, the best I can pit it against was when the sister-in-law had her house burgled – how she cringed at the thought of an unknown someone traipsing through her stuff. Perhaps some may feel that’s quite a strong similarity to assign a blog hack against – to tell the truth that’s just the tip of my anger – this place is my baby, my business, my livelihood.

Forgive me for a second as I talk about some great posts that we have featured in our young little blog recently. First there was the excellent Interview with Rand Fishkin who was as graceful as ever in his answers — then I remember that excellent post from the SEO companies contest from November, always a fav with the search traffic is our free directory list, we also had a nasty episode from a rogue glasgow ip, a old hit was another entry for seo companies competition in May, we also solicited our services for the price of a car rental - ah, what a laugh that was … not.

Free Firefox Rank Checker is a neat tool that checks and stores your keyword positions on Google, Yahoo and MSN. The tool also has feature to check Google International datacentres so you can set it to go and look up your website on Google.co.uk to the top 200 positions.
