Your 404 Place or Mine
After reading those clever guys over at Search Engine Peoples post regarding Social Media sites and their not-in-service screens it got me thinking about our own situation. Not a not-in-service screen but our own 404 error page.
We are going to be running a selection of video clips on our 404 page from now on – it’ll include music videos young and old, comedy sketches, film snippets and who would have guessed seo / search marketing tutorial tips.
We’ll even have an archive for our 404 selection. So, no longer plain, boring ‘Whoops page not found’ message but more in relation to web 2.0 practices.
What do I reckon will be the outcome of this : perhaps no more than a lost individual might get a peep of some social interaction rather than a page that instructs instead of performs. Heck, its a changing environment right enough and even some irrational changes like this might, and I repeat might, catch on.
Anyways Dare to Be Different : 404 Error Page

Haha Paul, That’s a brilliant idea and gave me a wee chuckle. May I suggest Tenacious d’s Wonderboy for your next video - will guarantee no one leaves the page
Ooooo, what about a requests page!

Speak to Colin about 404 pages. He had some great ideas when we chatting, I think we were in the pub :p, about how you could use 404 error pages to drive conversions. Its a great idea espescially following a website redevelopment - when 404 hits can go through the roof if the technies have no idea about redirects and cock it up. Better customer experience of your site = better sales.
Nice post
