SEO Competition Rules for 2008

Due to the better-than-expected response for our Top SEO Company competition last year we have decided to run another this year except spiced up a little. We’ll still run under the Regional [Scotland], National [UK] and International categories using the following search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) as our point scoring environments. The search terms have also increased but the points determined by the seedings remain the same.

So, if your interested and want a bit of fun vying against some of the best in the business then hop on board by finding your category and start optimising (optimizing) your site for the search terms. Good luck and may the force be with you.

Hmmmm, According to AltaVista UK, we are in the top 5 for “SEO” already and 28 for “SEO” in Yahoo. What is the prize again?

    Hi SEO Design Solutions,

Prize … Mmmm, How about some shares in Mahalo :)

    @Author: Are there any rules?
@Paul: Are we pretending Mahalo matters?
Although, it would be fun to see Jason Calacanis’s face when Mahalo was involved in an SEO contest.

@SlightlyShady, The Author and Paul are of the same form. It is I and he is me. ;)

Rules are of point scoring, key terms and engines used. There the only ones that matter to me.

I’ll donate a 1 year subscription to Internet Marketing Ninjas if that helps for a prize.

Yeah Jim, now that would work, wow, way cool.

Ah, sorry for the oversight. I looked to see if the post was signed, and I’m terrible with names regretably. Not sure if I’ll join the contest(I prefer completely saturating individual niches), but either way, good to know!

I think the idea is nice, Jim - what a fantastic prize that would be!

May I suggest when you take the entries you benchmark where the current positions lie?

Oi stop donating prizes, if too many people get interested in it I will have no chance of competing

I donate a full free seo audit if that appeals to anyone.

    Hi,
ok now assuming this is all for real how do you enter? Do you sign up? Do you check to make sure someone who is already number 1 is not entering?

I am about to move my site into the real zone of biz promoting so this would be a great deal of fun.
    please answer.
    regards
    Linda

Linda there is no entry fee or submission form to be had. Just start optimising your site for the chosen keywords above you’ll start showing in the search engines where I’ll pick you up.

Matt has stated that there should be a handicap formula where I can grab the staring position and offset against those that are already in the seeded areas that score but I don’t have the time or the resources for this.

Its a game of skill that if done correctly will bring its own rewards anyways because these keywords are terms that people use to enquire about seo products.

The addition of the new keyphrases should make things a bit more competitive. It will be interesting to see how long a new site with absolutely no back links and only five pages at present takes appear in the competition results.

Now that will be one for the watching - completely fresh, optimised url and page naming conventions, good internal linking structure — only worry for on-page optimisation with your site though is its semantic headers are wrong. Why start with a h5 tag and then work-up or down (as the case may be).

I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one. Its primed and ready to go … ;)

Still working om the CSS, once abolute positioning is in place I can move the header area to the bottom of the code and lift the H1 to the top. Well spotted though!

Just noticed that the keyword list for 2008 contains the UK spelling optimisation, or is that a typo?
