Forsooth, Search is just a Big Onion

I have been involved in the Search Industry for a very short time now in relation to some of the well known faces in the business – I’m just a mere pup.

Now, I’m an SEO, not a marketer, I’m getting better at this blogging business (some may hold an entirely different opinion). In the 4 or 5 months I have been blogging I have been introduced to new and varying concepts like Social Media Marketing Techniques, Link Baiting, PPC and making a few friends along the way.

A million miles away from on-page optimization and link building. Before, I visited a few on-line forums cutting through all the repetition and misinformation to get to the jucier posts where I could learn something new and fresh. I still do on-page optimization and link building but nowadays I have sites like Sphinn cranked up on my screen and scanning my rss subscription feeds before I take my first spoonful of cornflakes in the morning (we’ll to be honest its more like a roll n’ sausage than a bowl of cereal but you get the picture).

But what I have noticed is when a story breaks its sometimes at such a furious pace that it can almost take your eye out. The race is on to blog about it, if someone has already covered the basics of the story (they’ll always be more than one copy) then the next best thing is to cover it from a different angle. Heck if you even miss that boat then you can still get a viewpoint via the comments section on one of the blogs that is headlining the story. Its impressive, it really is.

Over the last few months I have probably read more than I ever have, academic years included. I have become in-tune to a lot of commentators out there. So many views, so many opinions, so many instances to learn more.

I know there are a number of others out there, like myself, Search Marketing guys getting drawn into the on-line sphinning marketing world. I guess that’s why I see Search as an onion. Each time you think that’s all there is, you discover something else underneath.

Layers, its all about the layers.

The more you peel the more your eyes bleed.
