Google Chrome Steps Up the Browser Wars

Google has launched its first TV advetisment in the States for their Google Chrome Browser. Currently, Chrome has just 1.4% share of the internet browser market, with Internet Explorer still dominating with a whopping 66% then Firefox on 22% and Safari with a reasonable 8%. With Microsoft releasing IE8, its not surprising that Google stepped onto the TV ad platform to invigorate a better browser share.

I have noticed an increased awareness program being used by Google to help promote Chrome. The latest ad I caught online was the one stationed to the right of Sky News’ popular video page, as below highlights…

It does just go to show that offline advertising is still a powerful medium, even for an online based company. At the moment there is no word ‘if or when’ the ads will be shown here in the UK. Here’s the Google Chrome ad that is being viewed by American audiences…

How similar is its CSS and JS handling to FF, O and Safari?

It’s not available on Linux so I have not been able to test it.

Hey David, I have noticed a few small css quirks with Chrome that rendered differently to the screen than with FF. One was on a site that used the h1 tag as an image holder and shunted the text to -1000 px to the left (yes, that old trick) anyway, Chrome displayed a 1px dotted line on top of the image and only when the h1 tag was removed and image displayed correctly did the dotted line dissapear. As for Opera and Safari, haven’t a clue tbh!

Thanks. So long as we don’t have another IE6 on our hands :P

I’ve never had any issues with Safari other than their fonts are rendered differently. Everything I’ve ever made for FF has worked 100% fine every time in Safari. There are occasionally a few bugs with O, but nothing that is going to eat up a day or two :D
